9:45 pm - Reusing Vintage Kimono in Fashion

_ladyatropos_
It is not uncommon to see vintage kimono reused in crafts. Obi, kimono, and bolts are used in a wide variety of crafts that yield some amazing products. I was looking around online today, and was inspired to dig through my collection of photos I have saved for more examples of these crafts. In particular, I saw a vest made from a tomesode, and thought it was really pretty.

For those who are not aware of what a tomesode is, it is a formal kimono for a married woman. It has a sweeping pattern around the bottom, and 3 to 5 mons at the shoulder area. They come in solid black, or another solid color.

Below, is a small selection of crafts, and goods made from these kimono. In particular, I really liked the dresses. I have seen purses, hats, shirts, skirts, and pants made from these kimono.

Tomesode Kimono Dresses

Here is an example of a shirt and a vest made from a tomesode kimono. In particular, I like that the original mons are included in the designs.

Tomesode Shirts

I really liked the dresses. I'm seriously pondering ways of to include something like the above into costuming.

For those who dig this sort of thing, I just started a blog at http://ohiokimono.wordpress.com/ - I'd love to trade links with you :)

9:22 pm - Про целлюлит.

anaamy

1:42 pm - Beauty Q's for the gals (and gals at heart!)

clubmix1996
Lately after touching up a set a pictures that I took in October I realized my skin is aging hard and fast (probably due to alcohol abuse) and I decided to make some changes from my usual wash with water only and moisturize, make-up and never washing it off at night routine.

Let it be known that my beauty routine is now as follows:

1. Exfoliate with a facial scrub
2. Tone with witch hazel
3. Rub in StriVectin-SD thoroughly (This is new! I just bought this nearly $200 wrinkle cream last week!) I let this settle in
4. Apply vitamin E oil under eyes, lips, forehead, and smile lines first then rub in all over. Let sink in.
5. Apply moisturizer in the form of jergens natural glow firming formula and let sink in.
6. I apply a very heavy off brand facial moisturizer that is supposedly brightening with the help of pearl extract under my eyes liberally. Like you can still see it and I let is sink in all the way.

This stuff has horse fat in it. I have no idea where it came from because I found it at my grandma’s house but it tends to work. After I am out of it I plan on buying an actual under eye cream for really horrible circles. Suggestions on what to buy?

7. Apply Revlon Age Defying foundation primer and let dry.
8. Apply Olay Definity Color Recapture. This is a spf 15 anti aging moisturizer with a very sheer and illuminating coverage. I add a bit more under my eyes and let sink in and “dry”.
9. Cover under eye circles with this stuff:
http://www.physiciansformula.com/en-us/productdetail/face/concealers/02725.html
This is supposed to lessen the circles under your eyes over time and I swore I noticed a slight difference at first but not really at this point.
10. If I am doing photos or an event I use Bare Minerals foundation if not I simply put my blush and eye stuff on and dust with a light powder. I have been using the new bare minerals feather light mineral veil but I am not exactly the most happy with it.

My questions are as follows:

1. Is it BAD to exfoliate daily? I like to because I think it keeps dead cells from building up and weathering fine lines into my face and keeps my face fresh and clean so it absorbs my moisturizers, creams and serums better.

2. I have been using the feather light mineral veil but it’s so SHINY. I bought it because I read that illuminating products diffuse light and make your face look less aged but this is so shiny that to me it looks like it highlights any sinking or lines in my face. I think it would be better used as a highlighter in specific areas after powdering all over.

What is a good loose powder that isn’t really heavy and too chalky or matte but also that’s not TOO shiny or illuminating. Something that has a natural skin like finish? I would prefer drugstore brands so I can get it sooner than later but more expensive recommendations are welcome as well.

3. I recently bought StriVectin which was originally developed as a stretch mark cream. Do you think this would work on scars? Do you have any other suggestions on what to use on scars that really works? Price is not an issue with this as I would try anything to get rid of these cutting marks I have.

4. Is Strive tin a long term wrinkle cure or is It something that only works while it’s on so I would need to buy it pretty much forever? I will say this shit is AMAZING and I have only used it maybe 5 times and I have noticed a HUGE difference already.

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions in advance!

9:09 am - Youth in a tube!

marley_station
This stuff  came as part of a limited edition gift box that I purchased at Borders recently for $20.  There were some other items in the box as well.  Anyway, this stuff is unreal.  You smooth it onto your face, and a minute later you're a few years younger!  I couldn't believe how quickly and effectively this stuff worked!

This is the exact size of the tube that came in my gift box.  I checked it out and discovered that this little tube of cream retails for $24.99 (that gift box was a sweet deal)!  If you want to purchase a jar of the stuff, it will cost you a whopping $124!

I don't know if anyone else purchased that gift box from Borders and got the chance to use this stuff as a result.  I can tell you right now that, if I hadn't I never would have discovered this product.  It is the real deal--and it's got the price tag that comes with it.  If you're in the market for an anti-aging cream and you are prepared to shell out the bucks, I strongly recommend this product.  It works.

5:25 pm - Estee Lauder Double Wear

smokingpoppy
Hi first post here! I don't know if anyone has ever reviewed this in this community but I feel it is a must because I have been using it for YEARS. Estee Lauder Double Wear, this foundation is absolutely amazing. Talk about staying power, they say 15 hours in the description, yeah 15 hours if you're consistently rubbing your face against a piece of serious grain sand paper. I can sleep in this stuff overnight and it would not come off, bad idea though pore clogging yikes! The cons, make sure you moisturize before putting this stuff on because it will only amplify. I have to pile on the lotion around my nose area so it doesn't look flaky. This is for all you ladies who are sick and tired of seeing their foundation come off when pulling their sweaters over their head, not only is it a pain in the ass to get out it's embarrassing!! Try to apply this foundation topless or nude unless you are really careful one drop on your clothes and oh no.

So, I went to Bee Unique & poked around at their hair dye stuff lol. These are the ones I liked...Collapse )

I wanna put some color streaks in my hair. Obviously, red/pink/purple/blue are the colors I'm considering. I need a little help on some decisions here :)

Of all the ones that I picked, which ones would show up best in my hair?
From there, hopefully I can narrow down which I'll do on my own :)

2:59 pm - Cargo Plantlove lipstick colors?

brightlotusmoon
I am considering buying Cargo Plantlove lipsticks in Sam and Gamba, but the nearest Sephora is rather far from me, and I'd like to get some reviews and honest opinions on the colors before I order online. Does anyone here own those colors? Can you tell me exactly the kinds of red they are? Maybe with pictures?

(For reference: I have very pale skin with a neutral to yellow undertone, brown eyes and hair, and I prefer deep, dark reds and pinks that mimic the natural flush of just-kissed or bitten lips.)

11:37 am - Foundation help?
delta__blues Hi everyone!

I'm a first time poster.. I'm no make-up expert, so I come seeking some advice. Particularly, on foundation/cover-up. I can't seem to find one that works for me. So far I've tried (I believe most of these were creamy natural/buff beige type colors.. the first step up from ivory):

Maybelline StayMatte Mousse (A little thick.. made my skin break out)
Maybelline TruBlend Liquid Foundation (not too bad)
Almway Skin Clearing Liquid Foundation
Covergirl TrueMatch Liquid Foundation

My skin is pretty fair (but tans well), and for the most part clear, but it's combination. Any tips on that?? Back to the foundation.. I just want something that evens out my skin tone without looking too heavy. Everything I've tried kind of fades off near the end of the work day, looks too thick, or I get a really bad 'phantom' line from the foundation.

These are terrible pics, but they are the best examples I have of my skin. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I should go back to ivory? Bah, I have no idea. If anyone with similar skin could reccomend a good foundation that has worked, that would be so great.

Thank you!

4:37 pm - Eye creams

sanshine_butete
Hi Everyone!

Am thinking of switching eye cream. Have been using a combo of Loreal Visible Results (for daytime) and Olay Total effects eye cream (for night). Both help lighten my panda circles but I think it is largely due to the yellow pigment they put in the cream as colour corrector.

Unfortunately, they aren't as moisturising as I originally thought.

Any suggestions? I prefer to stick to drugstore brands but mid range brands are good too. I don't have J.Lo's budget so I can't get myself some la mer. hehehe

Thanks!

6:13 pm - First Time Poster

neeni

Hey everyone! My name's Janine and I just figured I'd promote a product I actually picked up on a whim.

I have naturally curly, hard-to-straighten hair...and I also haven't had a hair cut in nearly a year (I have an appointment on Wednesday, thank god.) I went to Ulta to see if I could find something to help with blowdrying my hair and I was first looking at TIGI's stuff and then some other more expensive brands and then I found something by charlesWorthington called "dream HAIR". I don't like products that straighten and make hair super flat so I stay away from serums (which sometimes work for me, however rarely, yet when they do, I end up with flat, limp hair) and I picked up this "Flawless Finish Straightening Balm". This stuff did the trick completely. It cut my hairdrying time down from it's usual 1hr/15mins to a little over just a half hour. All I used was this balm and a ceramic barrel brush.

I hope this helped anyone who was trying to straighten their natural curls!

10:58 am - hair toner

siobhan_vicious
what is the BEST toner to use to achieve white hair? please suggest a deposit-only toner as my hair has been lifted as far as it will go and i don't want to damage it with any other peroxide treatments. i've used manic panic virgin snow, special effects toner, and roux ultra white minx (which was a permanent color that my hair did not grab onto). thank you!

7:21 pm - intro.

estrella_trash
My name's Roxanne and i'm from Tacoma, Washington. I'm after tried and true tips by joining this community! :)

I just started blowing out my hair for the first time in my life, i happen to have wavy/curly thick hair. I use this product called cloud9 blowout which is supposed to be "heat activated" whatever that means and it also is supposed to preserve color.
I asked my hair stylist how a shampoo or a serum could preserve color she told me that a lot of the shampoos and serums of that nature are actually "low ph" which in chemical terms actually means there is more acid in it. I never would have thought. But i thought it would be a cool tip to share :)

9:45 pm - curls galore

vanityabuse

ok so i have really curly hair... not white gurl curly [no offense at all my mom is half white] i'm cuban/black/white so when i say curly i mean the equivalent to curly fry or a curly pig tail plus i have a lot of hair it's not thin and it's not thick it's right in between... complicating much?
anyways i love wearing it natural myself and everyone i know loves it's texture, bounce and just how damn curly it is
one problem it's been grown longer... a lot longer and i need to find another product that can handle my crazy curls.... i don't use anything too much alcohol or fragrance in it cause it potentially dries out curly hair.... i straighten it once in a while
any suggestions for my curls?
any suggestions for straightening serums?

p.s. i like product that supresses the frizz and prevents split ends

11:26 am - Girls with Curly or Frizzy Hair

icyblue
I have naturally curly hair, but it's not so curly that straightening is impossible. However, when I blowdry, no matter how carefully I do it, and no matter how small the sections I work with at one time, I tend to get 1980s BigHair. So when I want to wear my hair straight, I have to shower at night, put in a low ponytail, airdry over night, and flat iron in the morning.

I have solved that problem!

I went to France this summer and while I was there, I tried Phyto's Phytodefrisant Botanical Hair Relaxing Balm. It's amazing! My hair blowdries nearly perfectly straight, and a quick runthrough with a straigtening iron gets it looking nice and polished.

This product was way cheaper in France, but I am definitely willing to spend $26 on this product. Well worth it.

1:51 pm - Cut & Color

hairrescue
I dyed my hair again even though I was weary of drugstore box dye - and it turned really well and exactly how I wanted it. I also got a hair cut as and I kind of hated it for the first few days because it was a big chop - and it almost seemed like she chopped the length, but she didn't. I love it now and I am learning how to style it.

The dye: Garnier Nutrisse
The review: I must admit, this stuff is amazing for the price! I mixed medium brown with intense auburn and got this amazing rich cherry-chocolatey shade.
P.S.: I did Shawn's hair with the same mix and he loves it. The red is so subtle, but you can see hints and tints of auburn in the light and in the sun.

The cut: Jojo at Natalie Nicole Salon in Silverlake.
The review: I had my doubts, but she totally knows what she's doing.
Bonus: Only $40.00 bucks + tip!

medispa

Neodime®
http://www.naomi.ru/services/exlusive/neodime/

Neodime®?

Neodime®

Neodime®

Neodime®

Neodime®?

  • непосредственно стимулирует синтез коллагена за счет проникновения неодимового лазера глубоко в дерму кожи;

Neodime®?

Neodime®?

8:05 am - Ahem.

___lovestory

I'm sorry, but this stuff SUCKED. I wanted a tinted facial moisturizer that I could use as a substitute for foundation in the summer. Something lighter, that still provided coverage. I understand tinted moisturizers aren't going to provide tons of coverage, but this was just awful. It took about twenty minutes to completely dry on your face, so for a considerable amount of time you were SHINY as all hell. Then, if you sweat just a little, you'd get shiny again. It provided NO coverage at all. It didn't really moisturize that well, either.

I returned it to CVS. xD
